Upcoming System Enhancement: Changes to auto-forward of OFFICIAL emails in GovTeams PROTECTED

Who is affected?

GovTEAMS PROTECTED (GTP) users

Advice

In response to feedback from agencies, GTP will remove automatic forwarding of OFFICIAL classified emails. This change will take effect Saturday, 18th April 2026.

Following this change:

  • Emails received in GovPlace (OFFICIAL, OFFICIAL:SENSITIVE) will no longer be automatically forwarded to agency email inboxes.
  • Users will instead receive an automated notification to their OFFICIAL agency email address advising that an email has been received in GovPlace.
  • This aligns with the existing handling of PROTECTED emails, where notifications are sent without forwarding the email content itself.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes.

Users must continue to:

  • Select the correct security classification whenever prompted, in every environment (GovPlace, GovTEAMS PROTECTED or otherwise).
  • Ensure information is handled and shared in accordance with agency policy and security requirements.
